1. Definition

Leukocytosis is defined as an increase in the total number of white blood cells (leukocytes) present in the blood.

If the total number exceeds >10000 cells per microliter (µl), it is a leukocytosis.

The opposite is leukopenia.

  • Neutrophilia (neutrophilic leukocytosis)
  • Monocytosis
  • Eosinophilia
  • Basophilia
